What is the Seismo-Quake® Burglar Alarm ?

Seismo-QuakeŽ Burglar Alarm provide further education in the fascinating world of electronics and circuit design with the topics of circuit continuity, parallel / series, a timer circuit, an intelligent decision sensor circuit and a buzzer producing an audible sound. Arm your Seismo-QuakeŽ Burglar Alarm with a 9V (or PP3) battery, set a perimeter around a room for example with the sensors provided, connect the two printed circuit boards (PCBs) together, connect the buzzer and your Seismo-QuakeŽ Burglar Alarm is ready to protect !

Architecture

Seismo-QuakeŽ Burglar Alarm consist of pre-assembled printed circuit boards (PCBs) with the Seismo-QuakeŽ Sensor Board and the Seismo-QuakeŽ Monostable Timer playing an integral part in the functionality of the Seismo-QuakeŽ Burglar Alarm circuitry. The input consist of an external circuit of sensors configured as a normally open circuit or a normally closed circuit. This external sensor circuit is connected to the process circuit, which consist of the Seismo-QuakeŽ Sensor Board and the Seismo-QuakeŽ Monostable Timer. The process circuit determine if continuity in the external sensor circuit exist and if the audible output buzzer need to sound for a predetermined time.

Key Features - Technical

Electrically safe to use with no alternating current (AC) mains connection.

Power source is a 9 Volt (or PP3) battery (not included).

Input and output reverse polarity protection build in on both printed circuit boards (PCBs), Seismo-QuakeŽ Sensor Board and the Seismo-QuakeŽ Monostable Timer.

No voltage regulation applied on both printed circuit boards (PCBs), Seismo-QuakeŽ Sensor Board and the Seismo-QuakeŽ Monostable Timer.

Safe maximum supply voltage of 16VDC for both the Seismo-QuakeŽ Sensor Board and the Seismo-QuakeŽ Monostable Timer.

In standby mode Seismo-QuakeŽ Burglar Alarm achieve in the region of 22mADC.

Functional operating ambient temperature of 0ºC to +70ºC for both the Seismo-QuakeŽ Sensor Board and the Seismo-QuakeŽ Monostable Timer.

Applications

Seismo-QuakeŽ Burglar Alarm is an excellent tutoring aid in the subject of electronics and to convey the principles of circuit continuity, parallel / series and sensors implemented in commercial alarm systems.

Seismo-QuakeŽ Burglar Alarm may be implemented in control circuitry with a range of switches and sensors to choose from.

Where an external device need to be controlled and switched on for a predetermined time and off again.

Seismo-QuakeŽ Burglar Alarm may be used in applications where a larger current need to be switched with the aid of a relay, maybe driving a solenoid.

Provide additional expansion for hobby model enthusiasts.

Assembling

Assembling the Seismo-QuakeŽ Burglar Alarm may take longer with more connection points to connect. Sensor circuitry may alternate between different configurations and different types of sensors. Note polarity when connecting the Seismo-QuakeŽ Sensor Board, the Seismo-QuakeŽ Monostable Timer and the buzzer.

Hints and Tips

For a more economical approach use NiMH rechargeable batteries.

Experiment with different commercial alarm sensors.
